About
A well-hidden museum dedicated to the history of medicine that is one of the most important.
Located in the nearby area of Vatican City, this medical history museum is situated in an old anatomical theater, which was part of the complex of Santo Spirito in Sassia. Students used to dissect cadavers here to further their understanding of human anatomy. Guided tours of the museum offer insight into a reconstructed 17th-century pharmacy and alchemical laboratory that reproduces the famous door from Rome. In addition, visitors can browse a vast library of antiquarian books and admire a range of anatomical models on display. Among these wax creations are Pliny the Elder’s alleged skull and a rare 17th- century ivory anatomical Venus.
