About
Caves, tunnels, and wells filled with fascinating figures and symbols.
Under the ancient city of Osimo lies a dense network of tunnels, passages, and underground environments dug at various levels. They connect vertically to each other by wells or chimneys. Some notable palaces such as Palazzo Campana, Palazzo Riccioni, Palazzo Simonetti, and Palazzo Gallo are connected to the labyrinth via well-known entrances. Most of these caves served as escape passages, storage facilities for food or water, or connecting tunnels between different parts of the city. The mystery surrounding the origins of these caves is probably due to their secrecy. There are various symbols throughout the network, from the religious bas-reliefs kept inside Cantinone Caves to symbols associated with the Templars from 1167 to 1317. Symbols associated with Atlantis and Solomon can also be found in some reliefs.
