About
Located in a high mountain cave, this hermitage dates back to the ninth century.
The Aurunci Mountains in Italy have a winding trail that leads to a cave under the Redentore peak at 1,160 meters (3,800 feet) above sea level. In the cave is the Eremo di San Michele Arcangelo, a beautiful hermitage dating back to the ninth century. From the peaks of the Aurunci Mountains, one can see the Pontine Islands and the Island of Ischia on a clear day, when they are not covered in mist. The Aurunci Mountains are bare and dry on the side that faces the Mediterranean.
