About

On the Italian Riviera, there are five candy-colored towns.

The remote and charming villages of Cinque Terre, or “Five Lands,” have been around for centuries; they date back to the 11th century along the Italian Riviera. Isolation was a common reality for these communities – Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore – until 19th century railroads connected them to Italy at large. Unfortunately, this quickly led to a decline in tradition and young people; however, tourists re-discovered Cinque Terre's beauty in the 1970s and it has attracted visitors ever since. Uniting these alluring towns is a special train line running between them.
